2025 CLEA Awards for Outstanding Clinical and Externship Students: UNC’s Thad Beaver

Each year, the Clinical Legal Education Association invites law schools to nominate students as their Outstanding Clinic Student or Team and Outstanding Externship student. This series includes submissions from law schools celebrating their outstanding students.

From University of North Carolina School of Law:

CLEA Outstanding Clinic Student: Thad Beaver

This year’s recipient of the Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Student Award for the University of North Carolina School of Law is Thad Beaver for his excellent work in the Immigration Clinic. Thad worked on legally and emotionally complex cases and regularly pushed himself through these challenges and past his comfort zone to grow, learn, and continue to improve his lawyering abilities, humbly helping his peer colleagues do the same. He, likewise, works effectively with interpreters, with his partner, and with other witnesses and constituencies. Additionally, be it through his written and oral advocacy or through his attorney-client relations, Thad was indefatigable in ensuring that the Clinic’s clients—some of society’s most marginalized—had effective, empathetic, and exceptional representation.
